What does SACRED mean?

Holy, consecrated, set apart… all words we’ve probably heard from our faith traditions but what does that really mean?

When something is SACRED it means it is special. It comes from a Divine Source. It is pure in essence from anything that could taint it. It is not from this world – which is an amalgamation of the pure and impure. We know this world is full of ugly. But we also know that beauty exists paradoxically alongside the ugly, for the balance of life requires it. We live within the spectrum of polarity, purity and impurity being on opposite ends. All of us tend to exist somewhere along the spectrum moving closer to one end or the other. So when something is SACRED, we acknowledge it’s purity and beauty in the world. We know it’s special because it stands out amongst the muck and garbage in this plane of existence.

Birth. Birth is SACRED. We know from the moment we hear the first cry of our child, the energy and emotion shoots through us and it creates a life long connection that will never be broken. We acknowledge that something incredible has occurred because a human that has never walked this earth before, is now amongst the living. We acknowledge this being as a soul sent to us by God, our Creator, with all the potential of heaven inside of him or her, waiting to be realized in the world. Birth, although we take this very act for granted simply because of modern technology and how commonplace it’s become, is sacred. It is where heaven and earth come together for a moment, peircing the veil of creation. It’s what women have sacrificed their lives for. Creation and regeneration of the collective human spirit.

Marriage. The Union of souls.
Menarche or a girl’s first period. Her initiation into a being who can create, bringing new life into this world.
Coming of age. The age of accountability for a young person’s life.
Death. Saying goodbye to one life to step into the next.

These are all sacred moments in a person’s life that must be honored and recognized if we are to develop into healthy people, families, communities and nations. We cannot continue living one continuous stream of existence without breaking to integrate the experiences of our life into our psyche. This is why we are all burnt out. This is why marriages are falling apart. This is why our families are toxic. We are losing ourselves to the slavery of modern society. It’s time to reclaim the sanctity of life. Of YOUR life. To honor whatever is sacred in your life. Let us know how we can help to support you on this journey.
